A fingernail moon was hanging in the twilight sky as we walked by. The work of baling hay had finished and the large round bales were spread across the field next to a newer subdivision on the Five Mile Prairie. The evening was still warm with the last of the sunset pinks quickly fading, leaving a soft, hopeful glow.
This painting reminds me of all that had happened in the two weeks before. The Old Trails Fire had come so close to my sister-in-law's and her husband's home. When they were evacuated, they had only a few quick minutes to grab their most important valuables and go, as so many people had done that day. Their home was spared, but I think of everyone who was impacted by those fires. I drove through the burned area at Nine Mile. It was very sobering to see. There were chimneys still standing, burned-out cars, and stairways leading to the sky, but everything else was mostly ashes. A "For Sale" sign stood in front of the charred remains of one place.
There were so many families whose dreams were turned to heartache in the blink of an eye. And yet, friends, family, and the community have come together to help. There are angels at work in this situation, and this situation is repeated across our country and across the world every day. And where there are angels and prayers, there is still Hope.
This is why I am painting today. "Twilight Moon…" is my gift and donation to somehow help these people who are hurting. Perhaps my hope and passion can help in some small way. I know the need is great, but together we can make a bit of a difference.
This is day 8 already. Yesterday another painting sold, which is so encouraging and motivating for me. Every message and email brings a smile to my face and warms my heart. Thank you so much for checking in every day.
With a heart full of love, gratitude, and hope,
Kristi
