Hey! Today is World Watercolor Day. How about that?

Every time we are leaving Wenatchee and heading up Highway 2, this trestle bridge is one of the landmarks I always look for. I always think I remember where it is, but it's still a bit further up the river. Finally, the trees part and as we fly by, there is a momentary glimpse of this extraordinary landscape. And then it's gone. There is no shoulder to stop to take a picture in this spot. Gary and I went searching for it last fall on the back roads, and we couldn't find a way to get to it to take any pictures, it looked like you had to go through private land to get to the river in this spot. This trestle bridge may be from a fantasy land, it seems to be so elusive. You must have seen it on your travels up to the pass too, haven't you?

Landmarks are something we always had as kids. Going to my Grandmother's house my sister and I would try to be the first with "I see the bridge!" or "I see the lumberyard!" And the best of all were the signs spaced every quarter of a mile or so which I memorized over my young years. They went something like this: Car in a ditch / Driver in a tree / The moon was full / And so was he / Noot's Drive-In. We knew we were nearly there! Do you remember having landmarks like this on your drives when you were a kid? It kept the drive fun and kept us from arguing about who crossed the imaginary line between my sister's side of the car and mine.

I listened to a really great opera today. "Werther" by Jules Massenet. Werther's tragic character was played by the handsome Jonas Kaufmann. I highly recommend this opera. Afterwards I listened to the Edith Piaf channel on Pandora.

If you traveled for the weekend, I hope you had safe travels home.
Be well,
Kristi
