On this Veteran's Day, my friend suggested I paint a red poppy, the symbol of remembrance for those who have died in war. I thought that sounded like a nice idea. The poppy became symbolic after a poem, written in 1915 by John McCrae, titled "In Flanders Field" was published. The first stanza reads:
"In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below."
Today I would like to remember and honor my husband, brothers-in-law, cousins, nephew and uncles who proudly served our country in the military. I would like to take just a minute to thank all of our veterans and military personnel on this Veterans Day. Thank you so very much for your service.
A friend and I got out for a pretty walk down at the Salmon Creek Watershed this morning. Lots of red berries were on a tree I didn't recognize, but the birds were enjoying them. Of course I got some pictures. Also, lots of leaves were carpeting the path which was really lovely too.
The opera for the day was Götterdämmerung the 4th and final opera in The Ring cycle by Richard Wagner. That soprano really got a workout, and all I can think of is what an incredible gift opera singers have!
Sending love and hope to you all tonight,
Kristi
