We went on a Sunday drive looking for autumn colors. I saw these yellow trees so we slowed down and turned on this wonderful road that rolled off into the distance. The lighting was perfect so I jumped out of the car and snapped off a couple of pictures. That's about when the dog started barking. Out in the country you never know if they are tied up or not so I decided to abort my photo session, looking longingly down that road as we drove off in a different direction.

Growing up, most every Sunday we would load up in the car and head out for the hills. My Dad loved finding new places we hadn't been before. He was curious and adventuresome and by the time I was in high school we had been over a lot of the beautiful country in Okanogan County and beyond. The Okanogan National Forest lies only a few miles from my hometown of Okanogan, so we were never without a forested mountain road to explore. My Dad was also a rock hound, always looking for good prospects to take home and cut open. It was a fun place to grow up!

Did you go for Sunday drives when you were a kid? Do you still get out and discover new places? What are your favorite memories?

For the opera today I realized I had only listened to the first half of Die Walküre yesterday so I had to finish that. Then I dove into Siegfried the third opera of The Ring cycle. I would have finished things earlier today but I got caught up in the story (reading the captions as it went along.) As a friend said "Epic music!"

I hope you enjoy this little painting. I'll be thinking about what to paint for you tomorrow.

Hug those who are dear to you or drop a note to those who are far away to let them know you are thinking of them.

Be well, create lots,
Kristi
