It was one of those nights when the moon would be setting soon. The Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge closes at dusk, and we were making our way around the final stretch when we came upon this deer. She was heading out to her favorite bistro for an appetizer of rabbitbrush. A quick look over her shoulder reassured her that we were not a danger, but that we were just passing through.
The animals at the wildlife refuge are so used to the cars driving five miles per hour through their neighborhood. They will just look at you and slowly wander on their way. There is something different to see every time we go out there, whether it is the animals or different birds or the way the light is filtering through the trees. I know I've said this before, but it is a very special place. I wonder, is there something similar close to where you live?
Today, I snuck out and went to the Clark County Open Studio Tours. I always like to go to the barn where our friend Larry Holt (@silvermoon435) works his magic, welding metal into figures who do precarious things. One tall, thin person hangs from a crescent moon, while another helps pull a long-legged friend by a rope to the top of a steep rock cliff. Larry's daughter, Jessica, is an artist as well and has lots of very cool pieces of pottery.
As we were leaving, Jessica was holding a puppy. Not just a regular puppy, but a six-week-old Golden Retriever puppy. That's how old our good boy, Bodie, was when we brought him home. This puppy's name is Jake. Do you think we should keep him?

It would be fun, but I'm remembering what sharp little teeth puppies have. And what floofy little fur balls they leave all over the house, and the list goes on. But I do love me a sweet Golden Retriever.
It is a wonderful thing to be able to get out and see other people's artwork. It's important to "fill the well," so to speak, and also to support other artists. After that distraction, I finally got going on today's painting, #17, of my Project Wildfire. That is why I'm sending this out to you later tonight. Enjoy the painting!
I hope you had a really good Saturday too. Thank you for reading, and thank you for your support of my fundraising effort for wildfire relief.
Sending smiles your way,
Kristi
