Here are four of my favorite things all in one watercolor. We have an oak tree, some nice reflections, an autumn sunset sending pink streaks across the sky, and last but not least, cattails. If only there had been a red-winged blackbird sitting on the cattail, this would have been the perfect painting!
This is a tree I have painted a few times; I'm sure you recognize it. It just has so much personality, coyly looking at itself in the mirror of the pond. The pink sky is nice, too, but I really should not try to paint it because I can never get a good photo that captures the true colors of this sunset. Does that sound familiar? Do your sunset photos turn out?
I was just doing a little reading about cattails. Apparently, they are a very healthy plant to have around. There is an edible corm that grows on its roots. Somewhere in the plant there is a powder that you can use like a thickener, allowing you to make cattail pancakes! I'd love to try some of those! Other parts are medicinal, and the fluffy tufts and leaves can be used as tinder to start a fire. You can read more on this website: Backwoods Home Magazine. They give a shout-out to Euell Gibbons and his book Stalking the Wild Asparagus. He wrote a whole chapter on cattails. How about that!
I saw a meme today that said, "Monday is the full moon, Saturday is Halloween, and Sunday is the Daylight Saving Time change. Buckle your seatbelt!" At least look for the full moon tonight if you aren't clouded over. It's always worth it!
Talk to you again tomorrow!
