January thoughts

Hello to everyone! I'm writing this as the sun is setting on a really pretty day in the Pacific Northwest. Wishing for snow doesn't seem to be working, so we are going with the beautiful weather for now.
We didn't get a calendar for Christmas, so I decided to make one myself using my paintings from this past year. I think it turned out really nice, so I am offering them to you in a new "Shop" on my website. I hope to get greeting cards up there too using a few of the paintings from the 50 Days project. Here is the link if you'd like to take a look at the calendar. Just a note, these ship in 5-6 days.
I am currently signed up for 4 different online classes. I guess you could call me a lifelong learner. The classes range from composition, to learning to paint in the way of the "Tonalists." The class I am the most interested in right now is a workshop on drawing trees. Dina Brodsky (who is on instagram @dinabrodsky) is teaching this 30 day program which looks into the history of drawing trees and studies how the masters drew trees in their sketchbooks, in etchings and finally in their finished paintings. Right now I am working on a master etching by Rembrandt called 'The Omval', which we are drawing with a very fine line Bic ballpoint pen. When I have something worthwhile to show you, I will post it here for you.
Other than that, things are quiet here. January has always been my time to rest up, watch old movies and maybe start cleaning out drawers. Gary has given up the fight with the squirrels, but he pretty much has them outfoxed now. We received a bird feeder for Christmas that has a camera in it. That's been fun to get set up, and every day it sends us pictures of the birds that have visited. Oh my, our lives are so exciting. What is it about turning 60, then all of the sudden you realize there are birds outside?
I hope you are resting up some too this month. I am grateful that you stopped by today!
Enjoy your weekend!
Kristi
