It had been snowing a little as we hiked up to Avalanche Lake in Glacier National Park. The sun broke through to warm up the colors and shine it's light on the peaks. Just at the corner of the lake from where we were standing Little Matterhorn was framed perfectly between the evergreens. You can see it on the right side of this watercolor.

After 49 days, finally today I had an "aha" moment, where I finally understood how I could paint better. Something clicked inside of me. I had been putting off getting started this morning, which meant it could take me until 8:00 pm again to finish. Gary and his daughter were out baking Christmas cookies, leaving me to my own devices. I had found several photos that might be possibilities for today, but this one stood out. The sun was cool and the composition could be good. So why was I stalling? I think painting every day has made the creative process feel like a job and I was on the clock with a deadline. I worked for 30+ years on deadline to meet press schedules and this became no different. Around Day 35 I was working more to find images that would please you and not those that touched my heart, and I could see it in the paintings. That is a big red flag, for me creating art needs to come from inside my heart, not to try to make a sale. Eugene Terekhin wrote in the Philosophy of Language, "Joy is a fruit — the fruit of being made through the work of our hands." Me, being made better in all ways, through my art.

Hey, I think today is the First Day of Christmas! Did you get a partridge in a pear tree? Yeah, me neither, but I would like a pear tree. And yesterday was National Poinsettia Day!

The opera today was "Parsifal" by Richard Wagner and oh what beautiful music! It was slow moving, but the music was so pretty as background music for painting. I'm definitely putting it on my playlist.

Thank you for sticking with me all these many days. Tomorrow is the last day of my 50 days, then I need to get to decorating and cookie baking, card writing and friend visiting. We need to get a Christmas tree too, and hopefully Monday things will be kinda dry so we can go cut one.

I appreciate you so much and wish you a very pleasant night,
Sending hugs,
Kristi
