For the next 24 hours this painting is $50, after that it jumps to $90.

The sun kissed the hillside, lighting it up in the most beautiful tangerine color as I headed down the road. Way in the back of beyond is Summer Lake, which was completely dry on this morning in October, and as the day went by that dry lake bed would shift colors as the sun passed over. What an amazing place!

In the fall of 2022 I spent 10 days at a self-directed Artist Residency in Southeastern Oregon called Playa. Self-directed meant I was there all by myself, working alone, eating alone, discovering the countryside alone and most importantly, creating art. While four other residents were there during this time, we were not allowed to bother each other, unless invited. So… I spent a lot of time hiking, discovering the petroglyphs in the area, and walking the mile or so out to the middle of that dry lakebed, which was the only place I could get a cell phone signal. (Can you imagine 10 days unplugged from a computer or news of the world?) It was an extremely impactful 10 days for me. and actually was the beginning of taking my art seriously and devoting myself to it. Let me add here that I was sponsored to go on this adventure and I will forever be grateful to my patron. Thank you, thank you!

This painting came from my second day, when I was up before sunrise so I could be on the hill across the highway when the sun hit the mountains like an orange floodlight, changing the world with it's amber glow. It is hard to replicate the beauty of the place and trying to infuse you with the feeling of that moment is impossible, but maybe you've experienced something similar when you have seen Mount Hood or Mount Rainier with just the top of the mountain lit up with that warmth of the early sunrise. I hope you have.

I know many of you are going through struggles right now. I hope that these little paintings may be a bright spot in your day.

I wish you all healing and hope.
Kristi

PS - The Opera of the Day was Tosca. Oh my, it's very dramatic!
